How to Replace an audi replacement Key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

woman-showing-the-car-keys-2022-12-16-22-09-32-utc-min-scaled.jpgCharles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 using an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are different pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were audi tt key fob not working firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline jump out but the 4th stay shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car is able to start when the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is plugged in but it still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant sensor Audi A3 Replacement Key (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows a temperature of -49c. Also i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and cheap an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you have a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to the engine shutting down.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, and/or an unfire when in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these symptoms. The good thing is that they are very affordable and easy to find particularly if you're looking at a Bosch unit which is what ours are. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a number of problems within your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi tt key programming because it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the car's engine is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

skoda-logo.jpgThe G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to regulate fuel, timig, and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas. This part is common across the audi tt key case 80-100-200-RS2 range, beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find good ones in wrecking yards.
