If this sensor fails the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It's a bit tricky to test since there are different pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading around 1000 ohms. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine with no sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start if the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is connected however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is 0.
I'm not sure what to do, i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find a spare in a wrecking shop or parts store.
